About Sculpting Wind
Sculpting Wind is my writing blog.
I started reading when I was six and wrote my first poem when I was seven. It was about Halloween.
In fourth grade, I won a school-wide poetry contest for Black History Month. I got to read my poem for the morning announcements. I loved that poem. It was about crows and how you can see all the colors in their feathers and so forth.
I began writing rhymed, scanned, utterly execrable stuff about the science fiction and fantasy novels I liked. If Anne McCaffrey suffered nausea and headaches during the 90s, that was probably me, though she didn’t know it. Sorry, Ms. McCaffrey.
In college I took Writing Poetry with Dr. Naton Leslie. (He writes some pretty awesome stuff – just look him up on Amazon.com.) He set to work crushing my ego and eradicating my myriad bad habits. May that man live a thousand years, and may most of my pre-Leslie poetry never again see the light of day! (I think my mom has a diskette in her safety deposit box, but I’m hoping it’s been corrupted by a passing cosmic ray.)
So here I am today.
Constructive criticism is welcome. Linking and spreading the word are also much appreciated. And please do go visit the people on my BlogRoll – most of them are blogs of writers I know (or wish I did!)
